NOTE: This demo will only work correctly on a webkit browser and has only been tested in Safari 5 and Google Chrome 5. Here’s how it will look when rendered correctly. Update: Apparently, there’s a bad bug in…
CSS3 is powerful. The key is to know how to use it.

Expedite timetable, train lorry drivers →
Chairman for the Government Parliamentary Committee for Transport, Dr Lim Wee Kiak, said new rules to enhance the safety of workers transported on lorries should kick in sooner rather than later.
He was referring to measures introduced by the Land Transport Authority last September, some of which will only take effect in 2012.
It is ridiculous that humans are still allowed to be transported...

Microsoft Exchange at Internode | Internode Blog →

Simon Hackett of Internode (more like, Mr Internode) on why Internode has shifted their internal staff email from an open-source IMAP server to Microsoft Exchange 2007 earlier this year.
I think the missing link for me, despite Snow Leopard, is still Outlook Web Access. It’s still not at feature parity, and I don’t mean trivial features! On Exchange 2003, you can’t even change your...

News from Cfleesia: Refreshing headers →
Contrary to popular belief, pushing the Refresh button (or Cmd-R) in Safari 4 does not really make it refresh. Well, it does, but there are at least two way of doing it, which send different HTTP headers:
Click Refresh: (Cmd-R)
Cache-Control: max-age=0
Shift-click Refresh: (not Cmd-Shift-R)
Yes, works with Safari 5.

64-bit Flash for Linux dropped as Adobe preps next... →
Apple was smart to not hold its breath for Flash to appear on iOS. User-experience on the iOS would have suffocated. Mac OS X 10.6 is almost totally 64-bit and yet, Adobe Flash Player is still stuck in 32-bit land.
With Adobe putting in such sincere efforts in maintaining its Flash Players on the desktop platforms, I wouldn’t be surprised by Apple’s skepticism.
And oh yeah, Adobe...

Town-council reports fair, says Grace Fu →
The funds for such projects are channelled through the grassroots adviser, the letter said.
This is usually the MP, except in opposition wards. In Hougang, the adviser then was - and still is - the People’s Action Party’s Mr Eric Low.
The state-appointed adviser’s main role is to assist in implementing programmes, like those in Housing Board upgrading.
Opposition MPs cannot...

Opposition-ward town councils fare poorly →
THE report card is out for the 16 here - and the two opposition- run ones, Potong Pasir and Hougang, did not fare well.
The Ministry of National Development’s (MND) first biannual Town Council Management Report covers six indicators across four key areas: Estate cleanliness, estate maintenance, lift performance and arrears on service and conservancy charges (S&CC).

SMRT Press Release — 8 June 2010 →
“SMRT’s emphasis on ‘the need for commuters to play their part’ skirts the larger public concern about the adequacy of SMRT’s security infrastructure. While we are cognisant of our role in ensuring the security of the MRT system as commuters, we question the extent to which SMRT expects us to go in ensuring the security of the SMRT depot facility.”
In the meantime, the Ministries of Transport...

You might have heard of the quote, “living like there is no tomorrow”. Steve Jobs once suggested to graduates to look into the mirror and ask themselves, “if this is the last day on Earth, would you have lived the way you did yesterday?”. If you have answered negatively consecutively, something has got to change.
On the other hand, it is also frowned upon in the Singaporean society to “live as...

With the WWDC 2010 kicking off in 16-hours time, is the collective web making preparations for the massive influx of traffic that is to come? The previous Apple Keynote almost brought the Internet onto its knees despite its built-in redundancy.

Price Discrimination
I’ve noticed pricing differences based on age and/or sex and it makes me ponder about the business motives.
Maybe they’re trying to attract a certain crowd? Or maybe they’re attracting this particular crowd, so as to attract another even higher-rolling crowd to cross-subsidise operational costs.
The easiest example to come across is “Ladies’ Night” where ladies get to enter the...
