I remember during the GE2011, one of the complaints against the then Health Minister was that the increase in hospital beds was outright insufficient.
This smells too similar to the way the HDB managed its public housing supply.
Now, there is proof that healthcare infrastructure growth is woefully insufficient and the then Health Minister now handles housing.
In a Wikileaks cable, 2007:
Mah clarified that, in spite of press reports, a Singapore population of 6.5 million is not a target but rather the “maximum number” of people Singapore could support while maintaining the “current quality of life.” In any case, he said that it will be 40-50 years before Singapore’s population reached that level. In the near term, the GOS is planning for a population of closer to five million. About half of this figure will comprise immigrants, mainly from China and India.
I think we’re almost there with 2.5 mil locals and 2.5 mil indiscriminate foreigners.
